1(13oz)can garbanzo beans, drained
1 onion cut in fourths
2 cloves garlic
4 slices fresh white bread, cubed
1/4 tsp cumin seeds
4 small dried red chilies, crushed (I've used fresh jalapenos)
1 Tb chopped fresh parsley
salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 egg, beated
1/3 cup dry fine bread crumbs
vegetable oil for frying

Process beans, onion, garlic, bread, cumin and chilies in a blender or
food processor until smooth. Add parsley, salt, pepper and egg, mix
well. Form into balls or fat pancakes, coat in bread crumbs and fry
until golden brown. Serve in pita bread with lettuce, tomato and
onions.

i have always used bulger wheat in place of bread---

Yes, I have also but I found that the bread in this recipe is
particularly good when using canned chick peas rather than fresh
because the canned can be a bit watery and the bread soaks it up I
guess.
